Watercolor yachting

What is the word for “watercolor” in English? "Water color". If you do not know how this word is translated - and translate it simply by words, then you get “the color of water”. The color of the water is what attracts in sea travel. Either turquoise, now so blue that you can't believe the eyes - the real color of the sea can only be seen from a yacht. Not from the yacht on which you go for a walk from the beach for a couple of hours, but from the one on which you live, on which you meet sunrises and sunsets.

At the very beginning of the velvet season, we will spend a week in the best part of the Turkish Riviera and paint with watercolors every day.

A member of the team will be artist Anna Stoyanova, a teacher and organizer of art travel in the Art_Soul_Travel club.

With Anna, day after day, we will master different techniques of watercolor painting and create our first sketches from nature. Our plan for this week is to relax, sunbathe, swim and transfer to paper all the dazzling colors of this coastline.

Events schedule

  • Marmaris.

On Saturday we meet in Marmaris and check into our sailing yacht. Marmaris is one of the yacht capitals of Turkey. From the 11th century BC the city passes from hand to hand - the Greeks, Persians, Romans, one by one left their ships in this convenient bay, which is protected from storms and strong waves. Now tourists can walk along the embankments of the city along the endless rows of yachts - there are several large marinas in the city at once. One of the reasons for the popularity of the city among yachtsmen is how many ancient monuments and picturesque places around this city can be viewed only from the water. We will show you how best to get to the city from the airport, as well as explain in detail how to find exactly our marina and yacht. After settling on the boat, we meet the captain and undergo a safety briefing. In the evening we all have dinner together on a boat or in a cafe on the beach, get to know each other and discuss the upcoming trip.

On Sunday morning we wake up and get the boat ready to sail. The last purchases on the shore - and now we are saying goodbye to Marmaris for a week.

We are heading to Chiflik Bay. On the way, we get used to the boat and sails and, if the weather permits, we anchor in one of the bays along the way.

There we will conduct the first lesson - we will get acquainted with watercolors, master or repeat the basic techniques of working with it. After the lesson, we will be able to swim from a boat in the transparent sea, have lunch and hit the road.

In the evening we will come to Chiflik Bay and there we will conduct the second lesson. We will study the construction of the yacht and practice drawing simple plots with the sea and yachts.

  • Transition Ciftlik - Bozukkale.

Monday is not at all a difficult day on our trip. In the morning we wake up in Chiflik.

After lunch we will drive to Bozukkale. There is no overland road to this quiet cove - you can only get there by boat. But she was not always so quiet and calm. Due to the proximity of Greece, the fortress in this bay in ancient times was of great importance - it was supposed to provide protection for ships that transported goods to and from the island of Rhodes. The ruins of the fortress have survived to this day and are located very close to the yacht mooring.

On the way to Bozukkale, we'll talk about composition theory. We will learn to move away from platitudes in paintings and create our own unique compositions. We will learn the basics of perspective in order to convey the illusion of space correctly.

In the early evening we will arrive in Bozukkale and set off to sketch the fortress using the softest light. There, in practice, we will combine new knowledge - techniques, camera angles, composition - and apply them to capture the picturesque stones of the old fortress.

In the evening we have dinner at a restaurant on the beach and discuss our work for the day.

  • Transition Bozukkale - Bozburun.

We leave from Bozukkale to the town of Bozburun.

On the way, we will admire the surrounding landscapes - around us there will be smooth bends of mountains and a dazzling blue sea.

We will arrive in Bozburun in the afternoon - a cozy harbor awaits us, where fishing boats of local residents are right on the pier. A row of houses and a small mosque give it a recognizable Turkish flavor. There we will draw an urban plot - yachts, shops, a dome of a mosque. After that we will go to lunch. If desired, he can be in the city or directly on the yacht.

After lunch we will have another lesson dedicated to flowers. This evening we will learn how to reproduce the variety of shades of the sunset against the backdrop of the mountains and the sea.

After that, with those who still have strength left, we will go to a cafe on the shore. There, over tea or a glass of wine, we will discuss our work.

  • Transition Knidos - Datca.

On Wednesday we leave Bozburun and cross a small bay. On the traverse we will have picturesque Greek islands. We will pass them and head to Datca Bay.

A town in this place existed since the time of the Roman Empire, but the inhabitants preferred not to settle right on the coast. The fact is that until the beginning of the 20th century, pirates operated in these places - so they had to climb higher into the mountains. Now in these places it is absolutely safe - beautiful and calm.

At Dutch we will learn the basics of light transmission - whether it be city lights, stars or lighthouses. We will draw our own night sea plot and the starry sky, which will remind you of our journey for a long time

After that, we will choose where to have dinner, and after that, we will discuss our work and plans for the next day.

  • Transition Datca - Serce Limani.

Today we are heading back - but there is still a lot of interesting things ahead.

We are waiting for a picturesque return passage to another cozy bay - Serche. On the way, weather permitting, we'll sketch. We will draw details of the yacht itself, objects and fragments from marine life that do not surround us in everyday life, such as a sail, neatly folded sheets, fenders and or a winch handle. The main challenge is to pay more attention to detail and watercolor technique.

In the evening - a traditional dinner with a discussion of works.

  • Transition Serce Limani - Marmaris.

Friday is a time to relax, and in our watercolor yachting we will not deviate from tradition.

Today we will go from Serce to the home marina of Marmaris. Our adventure is drawing to a close. On this day, everyone will be able to work on those techniques and motives that are interesting to him - our teacher will always tell you how best to tackle the drawing.

In Marmaris in the evening we will go to a farewell dinner.

Our watercolor adventure is over - in the morning we check out from the boat.

However, we will have more than just photos on Instagram as a keepsake. Our souvenirs will be seascapes, the colors on which the salty wind has dried for us.

By the way, under the guidance of a teacher, we can turn some of the drawings into real postcards that can be presented to someone or left as a keepsake.
