The largest regatta is the legendary Barcolana!
More than fifty years ago, the sailing club Barkola and Grignano (Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano - two districts of Trieste) held the first race, which was attended by 51 boats. In 2017, 2,101 ships sailed on a signal. It was a world record for a simultaneous start: 25 thousand people on the water and 300 thousand spectators on the shore.
The regatta consists of thirteen nautical miles: starts from Barcolana and Miramare, and ends in the heart of Trieste, on the Unity Square of Italy.
Before the race, there is a festival with 300 events and initiatives, including water sports, art, culture, meetings, social events that are addressed not only to enthusiasts and professionals, but also to a wide audience. Thus, the regatta attracts more and more participants and athletes every year.

Grand opening of the regatta
Regatta for young boaters aged 8 to 15 years. Young yachtsmen on Optimist class yachts open the 10-day Barkolan regatta, which is a very big responsibility. Competitions are no different from "adults" - there is just as much excitement and the will to win. The guys will participate in 6 regattas for two days.
Concerts, meetings, conferences in Barcolana51 Village and in the squares and streets of Trieste.
Italian Maritime League Regatta
For this regatta inside the regatta it will be interesting to watch all the participants of Barcalona 51.
Also on this day you will be able to witness an unforgettable sight - a parade of sails painted by young artists. This is an international project that combines sailing and art. His goal is to raise funds for the charitable foundation of Andrew Simpson, a famous skipper.
Barkolana Classic is a parade regatta of vintage and classic ships. Here you can observe both the large yachts that once plowed the oceans, as well as typical small boats carefully restored by local shipbuilders. This impressive parade of ancient ships will not leave anyone indifferent. Prizes will be awarded not only to the winning crews, but also to the ships that are best restored.

Location
The regatta will take place on a fixed route in the Gulf of Trieste. The regatta is 13 nautical miles. The starting line runs between Barcola and Miramare. The regatta finish is the area of unity of Italy. The Barcolana 51 regatta is an opportunity not only to become part of the history of world sailing, but also to fill your life with vivid impressions.
