Basic yacht course Compentent Crew

The Competent Crew program is designed for those who are just taking their first steps in yachting. At the end of the course, you will be able to go to your first regatta, being a full member of the crew.

During the course, you will learn the structure of a sailing yacht, master the initial skills of managing a yacht, master the basic maneuvers, learn how to knit knots. At the end of the program, a PROyachting Competent Crew certificate is issued, which will allow you to go through the next stage of training at our school at a discount and already receive international yacht rights.

Training in Moscow takes place at the Water Stadium from May to September; in Sochi, classes at the Competent Crew course are available all year round and are held at the Imeretinsky yacht port.

Course program:

MARINE TERMINOLOGY

• Ship types, ship structure and equipment.

• Seaworthiness, stability factors.

• Relative course, forward / reverse, bow / traverse / aft, port side / starboard side, windward / leeward side.

LUGGING

• Folding the end into a bay, fastening by a duck

• Units: simple bayonet, vylenochny, figure eight, gazebo, straight, retaining, clew.

• Proper use and care of ends, cables, fenders.

SAIL AND YACHT MANAGEMENT

• Management of sails and halyards, setting and cleaning of sails.

• Folding, lifting, lowering and taking reefs on the grotto.

• Management and coordinated work of the mainsail and staysail.

• Understanding of commands given on tack and full courses

• Yacht management: maneuvering, full courses, turns, bringing and respecting, tuning

• Drift with retracted sails.

• Navigation at compass heading, compass control as amended.

SAILS AND HANDLING

• How the sail works.

• Parts of the sail and their names.

• Types of sails, storm jib, trisel - structures and application.

• Choice of front sails.

• Parts of running and standing rigging.

YACHT MANEUVERS, Mooring

• Nose / stern to the pier.

• To the pier with a lag.

• To the mooring buoy.

• Man overboard.

• Anchor device, anchoring.

ON-BOARD SAFETY AND RESCUE EQUIPMENT

• Use and location of lifejackets, first-aid kit, fire extinguishers, rescue equipment.

• Emergencies, people overboard, fire and others.

• Maritime safety, monitoring responsibilities, management and core responsibilities.

FUNDAMENTALS OF MOTION RULES

• Collision avoidance between sailing vessels, motorized vessels, sailing and motorized vessels.

• Right-hand traffic in narrow places, buoys, milestones and fencing systems.

• Basic lights, signs and sound signals.

• Basics of maneuvering.

• Impact of propeller operation on yacht steering in forward and reverse gears.

MARINE CARDS AND COMPASS

• Introduction to cartography, tide tables, weather forecasts.

• How to use the compass.

• Heading and bearing in relation to the ship.

• Basic observations using a hand-held direction finding compass and mapping them on a map.

• Understanding the factors affecting the course of the ship - wind drift and current.

• The influence of wind, tides, tides and currents.

• Sources of weather forecasts.

• The importance of weather for a yachtsman - whether to go to sea?

MARINE TRADITIONS, CUSTOMS AND DECAL
