The Solovetsky Islands is the largest archipelago of the White Sea. It consists of six large and approximately 70 small islands. The area of the Big Solovetsky Island is 248 km². In addition to it, the islands are interesting: Anzer, Bolshaya Muksalma, Malaya Muksalma, Bolshoy Zayatsky, Maly Zayatsky.
Cherries, rose hips bloom here, cedars, maples, hazel, viburnum, mountain ash - more than 500 types of vegetation grow.
Most of the Solovetsky archipelago is covered with forests. Here you can admire the groves of "dancing" birches. At sunset, it may seem that these are the silhouettes of dancers. The fact is that thin northern trees take bizarre shapes under the influence of constant winds and snow.
Solovki is surrounded by the most salty of the inland seas of Russia - the White. At the same time, there are 639 fresh lakes here. In the sea, there are herring, navaga, cod, flounder, wolffish, pinagor. In the lakes - perch, roach, pike, burbot, trout, ruff. Sea animals include seal, beluga whale, sea hare, harp seal. Algae plantations grow in the coastal strip: kelp, fucus, anfeltia.
The island's symbol is the Solovetsky seagulls. They inhabit the entire archipelago and are considered the messengers of spring here.
