Start:Medvezhyegorsk, Republic of Karelia, Russia
Finish:Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russia
Our trip will begin at the entrance to the White Sea-Baltic Canal, in the village of Medvezhyegorsk, and will end in the capital of Karelia - Petrozavodsk.
The main attraction of this hike is Kizhi.
Kizhi is the most fabulous and unusual island of the entire Russian North. The austere, cold landscape has been transformed by unique monuments of wooden architecture - amazing churches with carved scaly domes. This Karelian island has turned into a working miracle, a "living" attraction available for acquaintance and visiting. Some of the historical monuments are being restored through the efforts of restorers. Others are presented as they are, with the opportunity to explore, touch and learn how people of a bygone era lived. For the amazing collection of wooden buildings (especially temples and churches), UNESCO included the island of Kizhi, as well as the museum-reserve on its territory, in the lists of the heritage of world culture.
Kizhi is open to everyone who is not afraid to touch its unusual beauty. The island continues to transform, annually replenishing with new historical monuments and interesting buildings.
