Traveling the Gulf of Venice

Titian, art, bridges, narrow streets, carnivals, masks, baroque, romance, Casanova, pigeons, palaces, film festivals, Grand Canal, gondolas ... At what point did you catch yourself thinking that you understand what kind of city it is? Of course, about Venice - the most mysterious and desirable city in Italy, about which so much has been said, so much has been written! Perhaps one of you dreamed of trying yourself in the most romantic profession of a gondolier in the world? We spend the summer sensually and hotly, sailing to Venice with True Wind!

A city of poets, philosophers, artists and lovers ... A place of fatal accidents, romantic impulses and unexpected confessions. The atmosphere of timelessness, magnificent fun and unexpected melancholy. Here, human destinies are closely intertwined with history, and architecture is filled with elegant mystery. It seems that this city consists only of water, stone and the polyphony of the crowd. We have to turn off the usual tourist routes in order to see what is hidden from prying eyes, to learn city secrets and get to know the locals!

Venice

According to legend, Venice, like Aphrodite, arose from the snow-white sea foam. The waters of the lagoon opened, and a city of unearthly beauty appeared to the amazed public. Today, only the lazy does not say that the city is slowly but surely going under the water. Scientists estimate that by about 2028 the homeland of Marco Polo will become unsuitable for life, and by 2100 it will completely disappear completely under water. And while we have the opportunity to walk along the most famous Venetian bridges, feed the pigeons in Piazza San Marco and see with our own eyes how the Canal Grande is wrapped in a sunset veil, we will not miss our chance!

We will walk through the narrow feces - that's what streets are called in Venice, try to determine the moon phase by the blue-gold dial of a luxurious clock tower, take a closer look at the monument to the great playwright Carlo Goldoni, whose smile is even more mysterious than the smile of Mona Lisa! And traveling towards the city of lovers is most pleasant on a yacht, when the lapping of waves, a light breeze and the boundless sea overboard invariably create a romantic mood.

Events schedule

  • Saturday. Izola.

We meet with the True Wind team on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia - in the city of Isola. The original fishing port with winding cobbled streets has a truly Venetian charm.

In general, in Slovenia there are a great many picturesque cities and towns with their small-town color, but the Izola location is very attractive for yachtsmen and windsurfers, so our sailing trip to Venice starts here.

We will begin our day by introducing newcomers and friendly hugs to those who are not the first time sailing with us. Then we check in on the yacht, traditionally we go through a brief and such necessary briefing, after which we purchase provisions for the trip. When all the necessary preparations are completed, we will go for dinner to one of the original local restaurants in the city center, where we will solemnly raise glasses for the fair wind, high spirits and a wonderful vacation!

  • Sunday. Transition Izola - Caorle.

Today we are facing the first sailing trip to Venice. Leaving the Slovenian Izola, we head to the shores of Italy. Beginners will begin to understand the essence and romantic charm of traveling on a yacht, more experienced travelers habitually take the helm.

The ancient, picturesque, multifaceted, original and incredibly sincere town of Caorle continues to maintain the image of an old fishing town. Cultural traditions, history and art here are inextricably linked with the sea. Perhaps that is why the genius of severe male prose, Ernest Hemingway, so often stayed at Caorle. And Caorle will literally be a gourmet paradise! At dawn, the local fishing market traditionally wakes up, where you can buy the freshest sea treasures, for example, swordfish, or something more familiar, but no less tasty - mussels, lobsters, squids and others. We will admire the swans, take a walk along the promenade, visit the Cathedral of St. Mary, be sure to look at the lighthouse and spend the night on a yacht.

  • Monday. Crossing Caorle - Venezia.

We leave Caorle cozy, homely and calm behind us, because today our goal is the long-awaited, magnificent and romantic Venice! At the very approaches to the capital of holidays and arts, even the most experienced traveler can understand why Venice has become the center of world tourism. We will be met by cute multi-colored houses, similar to the scenery, two-colored waters of the lagoon from more than a hundred islands closely pressed to each other. Did you know that Venice is built on stilts of larch, delivered straight from Siberia? The ancient Venetians chose this tree for a reason - it practically does not rot in the water. We moor and head to enjoy the unusual medieval buildings of an amazing city on the water, look for sculptures of lions, as if reading books. One of the local legends says: a closed book in the clutches of a lion means that during the construction of the building Venice was in the process of war. If the building was erected in times of peace and quiet, then the lion holds in his paws an open book. An evening walk will give us the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of a falling asleep city: the rustle of steps on the stone of the pavement, the creak of shutters, the soft splash of waves and the romantic whisper of lovers.

  • August 13th. Tuesday. Venezia.

Perhaps in Venice it is worth lingering longer! Today we will devote time to the main attractions of the city.

Undoubtedly, the main highlight of Venice are the canals, gondolas and the order of the gondoliers. By the way, joining the orderly ranks of the mafia of gondoliers is very, very difficult, this profession is caste and very ancient, traditionally inherited from father to son, and the gondola itself (by the way, the emphasis is placed on the first syllable) is like a middle class car.

Piazza San Marco is located in the heart of the city and is literally surrounded by masterpieces of architecture. For many centuries, the Basilica of San Marco has been surrounded by turrets, arches and incredible architectural decorations. Next to it is the Gothic Doge's Palace, built on the foundation of the 9th century. The Golden House, ancient churches, palaces, the picturesque quarter of Rialto - in short, a real paradise for connoisseurs of exquisite buildings. The hometown of Antonio Vivaldi will also be interesting for lovers of cinema tourism - we will go through the places of filming films about Indiana Jones and the famous agent 007! We will finish the evening at Harrys Bar, Ernest Hemingway’s favorite place!

  • Wednesday. Crossing Venezia - Grado.

We are anchoring, it's time for a small transition! Today we set off on the border between the Gulf of Venice and Trieta, we are waiting for the island of the Sun and the wonderful town of Grado - the most famous resort of northern Italy. The local sandy beach is conveniently located against the backdrop of the blue mountains, next to the pine groves, and is famous for having been awarded the Blue Flag more than once - awards for cleanliness and order. Those interested can visit the Baptistery or mosaic panels of the local basilica of St. Mary and St. Euphemia, ancient statues, frescoes - everything here breathes the history of centuries. A small and incredibly old center, descended from the pages of national fairy tales, hundreds of cafes on every corner, beautiful views from almost every window, an evening promenade and the opportunity to listen to street musicians, a touching atmosphere of calm and comfort - all that is needed after busy days in Venice.

  • Thursday. Crossing Grado - Grignano.

I hope that in Grado you managed to gain strength and relax, because it is time to rush towards new impressions! The calculated point of our current route is the rocky cape Grignano in the Gulf of Trieste. The unusual history of the province and its geographical location contributed to the fact that four languages were equally recognized here: Slovenian, Italian, Ladin and German. Here we are waiting for the Roman Theater, Unity Square of Italy, palaces, basilicas, as well as the largest cave in Italy - Grotta Gigante. But the pearl of this day will be a visit to the fabulous castle of Miramare, which served as a prototype of the Swallow's Nest in Yalta. It cannot be said that it makes a greater impression - the castle itself or the huge arboretum park surrounding it. The castle is located on a rocky coast and seems to protrude above the sea, greeting us. The romantic and very sad history of this place will be a wonderful continuation of the Venetian theme.

  • Friday. Crossing Grignano - Izola.

So our sailing trip to Venice came to an end. We leave sensual Italy and return to the already familiar Slovenian city of Isola, where we say goodbye to our hospitable yacht. We take this opportunity and examine what we did not have time to evaluate on the day of arrival. We will walk around the town square and finish our Venetian holidays with a glass of local wine and delicious seafood in one of the many cafes.

  • Saturday. Izola.

Perhaps a trip on a yacht is the most romantic and sincere way to visit Venice. Today we have to say goodbye to a yacht, which undoubtedly has become our second home during our adventures. But, it will be quite a bit of time before you start mentally returning to the summer time after time, when together with the True Wind team went sailing to Venice. Well, tomorrow we will be waiting for new routes, uncharted islands and unprecedented impressions!
