Finish:Plymouth, UK
The Rolex Fastnet Race is the legendary 600 mile offshore race between England and Ireland, which takes place on the high seas. This is one of the most difficult offshore races in the world, if not the most difficult. To participate in it and even more to win is the goal of any serious athlete in the world. Since 1925, Rolex Fastnet Race has been hosting one of the oldest yachting clubs in the UK, Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC).
The distance covered by the participants is 608 nautical miles or 1126 km. This length is considered classic for such large regattas. Yachts start from the harbor of Coase, Isle of Wight. Further, the crews go along the southern coast of Britain, reach the coast of Ireland, they round the Fastnet rock and go back to finish in Plymouth. Despite the apparent simplicity, in fact, Fastnet Flight is the hardest regatta. It starts in mid-August - just at the time when the bad weather begins in the Atlantic off the British coast. In such conditions, it is unusually difficult to walk a thousand-kilometer distance without stops.
