We will certainly devote a couple of days to the study of Bora Bora. And here, believe me, there is something to explore! Bora Bora formed after the eruption of a volcano. It has the shape of a central mountain in the ring of a coral reef atoll with numerous small motu (islets). The discoverer of the island is the notorious James Cook, who sailed through these islands during his first famous trip. Let's go along his route. There is a sign on the island - all guests are greeted with garlands of tiare - flowers that symbolize Polynesia. Bora Bora is known for sunsets, the most colorful and long at these latitudes. In the central part of the atoll there is an emerald clear lagoon, obtained as a result of washing of sandy rocks. Swimming in it, especially under water, is the most popular of activities on the island. Swimming, diving, snorkeling, fishing - entertainment for every taste. It definitely won’t be boring!
Tahaa (Taa, Tahaa), or Vanilla Island. The area of the island is about 89 square meters. km, the highest point is at the top of Mount Ohiri (590 m) - an ancient volcano. The reef surrounding the island is almost 160 km long, forming in the northern and northeastern parts of more than 60 motu islands, on which several hotels are located. The main attraction of the island is its eight relatively isolated and very different villages, the main of which is called the Patio. By the way, 76% of the entire French Polynesia vanilla crop is harvested here.
Next to the island of Tahaa is the second largest island of French Polynesia - Rayatea. About 1000 years ago, it was a center of religion and culture. A large number of temples have been preserved on the island, including the largest in Polynesia and the most famous Taputapuatea, dedicated to the war god Oro, indicating the sacred status of the island.
The next island on our list is Hua Hin Island, which earned the nickname Wild among locals. Hua Hin is the most mystical place in French Polynesia and one of the largest archaeological centers in the Polynesian triangle. It was on this island that the famous traces of ancient Polynesian cultures were found, among which the oldest of the currently known sections of the Maui civilization dating back to 800–900. n e. In 1972, during the construction of the Bali Hai Hotel near Fare, a large accumulation of Maui objects buried in an ancient swamp was discovered. Another feature of Hua hin, attracting thousands of visitors to the island, is the “green ray” phenomenon described in all textbooks - when the sun goes beyond the horizon, an emerald green ray arises due to the special refraction of sunlight in the earth’s atmosphere. It is said that Hua hin is the best place on the planet to observe this phenomenon.
Moorea Island is located in the Pacific Ocean, 17 km northwest of Tahiti. Translated from the Polynesian, its name means "yellow lizard." If you look from a bird's eye view, the shape of Moorea resembles a triangle, and for some it seems that it looks like a heart. Therefore, it has become a popular venue for weddings and honeymoons. Perhaps it is there that you will want to make an offer to your soulmate?
And, of course, Tahiti is the largest island of French Polynesia and its political and economic center.
Tahiti is a beautiful landscape, spectacular waterfalls, not to mention the unique museums. Sometimes this island is called the Queen of the Pacific. The island is of volcanic origin, so the sand on most of its beaches is black. The island has one of the highest waterfalls in the world - almost 300-meter Fautaua.
