RYA Competent Crew

This is a relaxing course where you might spend the week visiting other marinas and ports such as San Sebastian de la Gomera - giving you a chance to see the unspoiled areas of the Canary Islands.

After this course you will become a useful crew member who is able to helm (steer the yacht), handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day yacht management. All our courses are tought in English.

Syllabus

- Knowledge of sea and yacht terms

- Rigging and sails & sail handling

- Fire precautions and fighting

- Personal safety equipment

- Man overboard & emergency equipment

- Basic meteorology

- General duties, manners and customs

- Rules of the road

- Dinghies & Anchoring

Notes

The climate in the Canaries is temperate. You are recommended to bring with you shorts and t-shirts, long jeans/trousers and a jumper for the odd cooler evening in the winter months, shoes with non-marking bottoms for use on the boat, swimwear and something for dinners ashore. As the boat has limited storage space a soft suitcase is the most suitable luggage.
